Take away some of the daytime
effects of snoring

Snoring is a common problem
that affects many people of all ages. For some people it is a socially
embarrassing problem. For others it is even more severe, straining
relationships with their partners.
These effects can be physical as well as
emotional and in a lot of case it will be both.
Acute snoring can severely impact on
normal sleeping patterns, causing exhaustion and a lowered immune
system. Over an extended period of time, serious snorers may also
develop more severe conditions such as sleep apnoea.
Emotionally, snoring can severely
impact on the relationships that snorers have with those around them.
Many partners of snorers become resentful due to the fact that they are
deprived of sleep on an ongoing basis.

An ongoing snoring problem may also
affect an individual psychologically. What starts off as harmless
ridicule by friends and peers may eventually cause a snorer to become
self conscious, introverted and even anti social. Snorers may seek to
avoid group holidays and gatherings for fear of keeping others awake.
They may also fear falling asleep and thus begin to suffer from the
effects of either mild or chronic insomnia.
Now there’s a new system designed
to help you stop snoring: the Silensor - available from your dentist.
How does the Silensor system work?
The Silensor uses a pair of clear plastic moulding, shaped to fit you
teeth, which you slip into your mouth at bedtime. The top and bottom
sections are connected at the sides by short plastic links, which have
the effect of pulling your lower jaw slightly forward. This in turn
holds the airways open, reducing the constriction that causes the snoring.
